Dave Manak – Sonic Comic Book Illustrator

Dave Manak is a veteran comic book illustrator whose work has spanned decades, genres, and generations. He began his career in the early 1970s with Warren Publications, contributing stories to their iconic horror magazines. Throughout the ’80s and ’90s, he continued to leave his mark on the comics world with contributions to DC’s mystery and horror titles, as well as eye-catching cover art.

But to video game fans, Dave is perhaps best known for his work on Sonic the Hedgehog. As a former Archie Comics staffer, he became the first penciler of the main Sonic the Hedgehog comic book series following the original mini-series in 1993. His artwork helped establish the tone and look of Sonic in comic form and played a key role in shaping how fans visualized the beloved characters outside of the games.

In addition to Sonic, Dave’s long list of credits includes work on ALF, Mad Magazine (notably Spy vs. Spy), and Sabrina the Teenage Witch, among many others.
